very helpful guide

this was not my first "planet" so i knew what i would buy. the problem with ireland is, there are tiny places with big sights. so the "planet" could make a stronger focus on little towns, especially with more maps and "how to get there/ away".
but it's worth every single penny.

gerade erst bin ich zurück von meiner Reise durch Irland mit dem Lonely Planet als Reiseführer. Bislang habe ich gerade für Reisen mit Rucksack und Zelt in diversen Ländern nur gute Erfahrungen mit Lonely Planet gemacht. Anders war das diesmal: vielleicht weil der Reiseführer nicht von Reisenden sondern von ansässigen Iren geschrieben worden ist, fehlen wichtige Infos. Z.B. die wichtigsten Zeltmöglichkeiten, wo kann Wäsche gewaschen werden etc. Andere Info ist schlichtweg falsch: z.B. gibt es ein ganzes Kapitel darüber, dass Vegetarier gar nicht erst nach Irland reisen brauchen. Völliger Quatsch: selbst der letzte Pub bietet leckere vegetarische Varianten an und alle Lebensmittel sind mit einem extra Symbol versehen "Suitable for vegetarian". Vermißt habe ich auch Wandertouren, ausführliche Infos über das hervorragende Netz an Independent Hostels....

Seit ich 1999 auf einer Reise mit dem Lonely Planet in Kontakt kam, habe ich ca. 30 dieser Bücher gekauft und bin nahezu immer hervorragend informiert worden.
Diese Reisebücher sind für Individualreisen nahezu unverzichtbar, es sei denn man kennt Leute vor Ort, spricht die Landessprache perfekt oder hat Jahr.
Für mich ist der Lonely Planet eine unverzichtbare Quelle an Informationen. Die guten Beschreibungen von Übernachtungsmöglichkeiten, die vielen Karten, die unzähligen Insiderinfos u.s.w. sind enorm nützlich.

Einfach sagenhaft! Unverzichtbar für Individualreisende

Ich hatte mir den Reiseführer für eine Reise durch Irland besorgt um aktuelle Informationen zu erhalten! Und diese Investition hat sich auf JEDEN Fall gelohnt. Nicht nur, dass quasie jedes Dorf drin steht (das ist sogar in Irland eine Leistung) es stehen auch wirklich nützliche Dinge drin, wie Öffnungszeiten von den Touristinfomations. Das Buch ist aber über Strecken auch sehr lustig zu lesen, da die Autoren offensichtlich eine leicht ironisch Herangehensweise an die irische Geschichte haben. Ebenfalls sehr schön fand ich die Hinweise darauf, wie man mit öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln durch Irland rumkommt, die übrigens besser als ihr Ruf sind.
Was mich nur teilweise etwas erstaunte, waren die Bezeichnungen mancher Sehenswürdigkeiten als überlaufen. Vielleicht waren sie im irischen Maßstab "überlaufen", dies hieß aber, dass man vielleicht in 40m Entfernung nochmal einen anderen Menschen sah. Überlaufen ist anders!

Ich kann wirlich nur jedem Irlandreisenden diesen Reiseführer empfehlen, der keine reine Kulturreise machen will.
